Meet Dr. Jill Kitson

Dr. Jill Kitson is an ABVP Feline Practitioner, and has helped pave the way for the ABVP-Companion Animal Pain Management Fellowship, she is certified in rehabilitation therapy and acupuncture through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute, holds an Advanced Certificate in Feline Behavior with Distinction through International Society of Feline Medicine as well as a designation of a Feline Friendly Veterinarian through the Feline Veterinary Medical Association, and is a Certified Fear Free Professional. She has worked in both general practice and an emergency/referral setting over the past 20 years. During her tenure as a veterinarian, she has become very passionate about feline practice and ensuring all cats are getting the elevated care they need and deserve. Her true passion is geriatric medicine and palliative care and has recently become a Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Veterinarian through CAETA.

“Pain plays such an important role in the behaviors of cats, so I have made it my mission to ensure not just the disease is assessed, but also each cat's pain and the role it plays in their behavior and mobility.”

When she moved from the Fort Wayne area to Lexington, Kentucky, rather than just providing care in a single hospital, she decided to partner with multiple hospitals to provide more cats elevated health management and pain control.

Meet my Cats

Squid & Sangria always have so much to say, they are Oriental Shorthairs. Squid is 8 and Sangria is 12 years old. Squid is fearful of loud noises, and we make sure he always has a safe space to feel secure. Sangria is always the first to greet strangers. Sangria has a condition called Progressive retinal atrophy, it is hereditary in Oriental Shorthairs and causes vision loss. She can still see, but we have had to make environmental adjustments to ensure she does not injure herself in dark spaces. Her mobility has also decreased, and she can’t jump as high and is not as sure of herself as she used to be, so we make sure there are stairs to navigate to vertical spaces.

Dumbledore, also known as Stretchy, is 15 years old and lives happily with chronic pancreatitis, IRIS Stage III chronic kidney disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and had gingivostomatitis as a young adult, had full mouth extractions and then developed chronic rhinitis as an adult. He lives his best life and loves everyone and thing he ever meets.
